Port Olry

During our initial visit to Santo we visited some of the provincial areas in the north eastern part of the island. One village was called Port Olry and had been established by missionaries many years ago. The area was simply breathtaking and one of those many areas that could be described as "heaven on earth". If we ever go missing this might be an area to check.

I have also just returned from port Olry and endorse all of Paul and Jacqui's comments.

The place is like a 'little paradise', teeming with wildlife- blue starfish, turtles, pet fruit bats, hermit crabs an dmuch much more. We had a chance to try local fruits and nuts, especially the fruit of the cacao. The children are gorgeous and very keen to try out their school French. The locals
joined us in the afternoons for musical jam sessions.

We loved watching them go out intheir outriggers each day, knowing that a decent catch would become our dinner, also. The restaurant is magical and very reasonable, with meals costing about 600Vatu.

I highly recommend it.
